We have holidayed at LMG for the last 3 consecutive years spending 8 weeks here in total and we LOVE it. John, Jane and Buster their dog really are the warmest, most welcoming and hospitable of hosts. They are always to hand but are not intrusive in any way. Buster the dog is a real favourite of ours. He is a lovely chap and loves nothing more than having a pat or two off the guests. He plays very gently with children and will play with them all day long if they are willing. Having said that, he very much knows his audience and will stay away if told too. Buster never enters the gites. The gites are very well appointed, nicely decorated and spotlessly clean with comfortable beds and pillows. Don't bother packing 'just in case' items - if it's not here - you don't need it. The gardens are beautiful, John and Jane take a lot of pride in them but they are not show gardens, children (and adults) are actively encouraged to make full use of them. The front lawn is almost the size of a football field and a great place for kids to run around and let off steam. The smaller, rear garden by the gites/pool is an ideal place for younger children to play, you can keep an eye on them even if you are inside. The well stocked games room has lots of garden games including badminton, giant Jenga, connect 4, boules and croquet. There is also table tennis, table football, board games, DVD's, books and a full size pool table (which needs a Euro coin) inside the games room. The pool area is a delight with enough loungers/tables/parasols for everyone. The pool is cleaned by John daily and the water is sparkling. The pool is alarmed and surrounded by a fence to keep younger guests safe -- it also has a safety ledge around the perimeter of the pool at the deeper ends. Most importantly for some - the LMG complimentary WIFI covers the pool area too! The pool does have a curfew which is relaxed if all parties are in agreement - my teenage daughter made friends with children from other gites this holiday and whilst us adults were enjoying John and Jane's BBQ night they were having the time of their lives in the pool whilst we kept an eye on them from the entertainment area - win! win! The BBQ nights are great value and I highly recommend them, John caters for everyone - if my very fussy daughter was satisfied then I can assure you ANYONE will be satsified! Children are catered for too. If you like curry - ask about their curry on a barbie - I won't spoil it for you - it's very different and we love it. You will need a car here as there is no bus or train service within walking distance. LMG is rural with no passing cars and it really is the ideal place to go and recharge your batteries as all you will hear is the odd tractor and the sounds of nature. Having said that, you are not in the middle of nowhere. The two local towns are 5-10 minute drive and both have all the facilities you would expect ie supermarket, 24/7, fuel, bank, bakers, butcher, post office, pizza take away, farm shop, restaurant, canoeing etc. The bigger town also has a large weekly market. From LMG we have visited Cognac, Bordeaux, St Emillion, Brantome, Bergarac,Aubterre sur Drone and Perigoux. Further afield day trips include the zoo at Royan, the martyr village Oradaour Sur Glane, the caves with their pre-historic paintings and the most beautiful, picturesque river cruise at La Roque Gagneaux, - these were very long days but they were do-able even with our daughter who was 10 when we first visited LMG. My husband won't sail so we travel to LMG via Eurotunnel every year. It usually takes us 8-10 hours. This is us plodding along within the speed limit including comfort stops and a longer break for food. We put Le Mans as a 'via point' into our satnav - it is slightly longer mileage wise but it does save us time wise by avoiding the 'Periphique' motorway around Paris. French Ferry ports are much closer but I cannot comment on them although I know, from experience, the majority of LMG guests arrive by ferry and arrive MUCH MUCH earlier than us! Jane provides a generous courtesy welcome pack on arrival and offers a reasonably priced delicious home roasted chicken which will be available upon your arrival - so you can jump into the pool and begin your holiday immediately safe in the knowledge that tea is ready and that you don't need to pop to the supermarket before it closes. The local supermarkets are open until midday on Sundays during the summer. We highly recommend LMG and would return in a heartbeat. I can assure you that you will not be disappointed in your hosts, accommodation or setting. Who knows - we might see you there?!?

We stayed during August this year with friends. We had all 3 gites to ourselves. The whole place was amazing, the gites, the grounds and the facilities. It was a great base for us to be able to explore the area. John and Jane were the most fantastic hosts, so welcoming, friendly and lovely people! We spent all our time outside eating, drinking and having fun. It was wonderful that Jane and John were able to join us on a few occasions where we all laughed and talked all night, it was just like spending time with old friends! Nothing was too much trouble and cannot recommend la maison grange enough. Can’t wait until we are able to revisit! X

Three friends and I stayed with the lovely Jane & John in September, using our gite as a base to explore the area and attend a friend's wedding at a chateaux nearby. La Maison Grange exceeded our expectations and really felt like home even on our short trip 🙂 The gite was well equipped, tasteful, and clean and the outdoor area was gorgeous in the sunshine, made even better by Buster the dog. John & Jane were friendly and hospitable and did everything they could to make us feel welcome, without being overbearing. John even offered to be our taxi driver which was much appreciated!! Would love to visit again. Thanks guys! All the best

Beth, Morgan and Oliver Bird. We stayed to attend a local wedding and we had a fantastic time with Jane and John who were so helpful and helped with all our needs. They would bend over backwards to help us but not intrusive. Having a little one on holiday is no easy task but they had everything you needed to have an enjoyable stay. The pool was really nice and we enjoyed playing in it. The linen and towels were spotless and the beds were comfortable. I would recommend to family and friends.

Thank very much Beth. We really appreciate your comments and are pleased you enjoyed your stay. There's no better advertising than recommendations - it really helps others make a constructive decision when looking for their holiday accommodation. Hope to see you again in the future.

Rob, Karen, Emily and Niall. Stayed for 2 weeks in August 2019. What a find !!!! Superb holiday from start to finish, the gites were spotlessly clean with everything you could possibly need for your holiday. The beds were comfy with nice linen and plenty of fluffy towels. The hosts local knowledge ensured all our days out and restaurant visits were a success. BBQ nights are a must, lovely food with great company and no travelling or washing up !! The gites are ideally positioned with a wealth of great days out within easy driving distance. Bordeaux, St. Emillion, Brantome to name but a few. Made some great friends and Even our miserable teenage kids loved it - now that is a miracle. Would certainly recommend and most certainly return.

Jane and John are kind, generous and knowledgeable hosts. We stayed in the Van Gogh gite for two weeks and it is very well equipped, comfortable and very clean. We had only booked for one week but loved it so much we ended up staying for two. What made us book La Maison Grange was that it was dog friendly and our puppy Chester loved all the space and enjoyed making friends with Buster the dog. Jane and John go above and beyond and made us all feel so at home. We will certainly be visiting again and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend La Maison Grange to anyone. Stay here and you will not be disappointed!

Thanks you both so much for your amazing review of LMG. It was an absolute delight having you all stay and Chester was such fun - brie dog!
We are looking forward very much to seeing you again.

My wife & I stayed at La Maison Grange with our three sons and their families to celebrate my wifes birthday We occupied the three gites which were all clean, well furnished and contained every facility. So we had sole use of the amenities, which were very good including table tennis, pool table and swimming pool.
John & Jayne were excellent hosts catering for all our needs without question. They recommended wine tasting venues, restaurants etc The barbeque evenings were one of the highlights, so enjoyed by all of us, that we requested extra ones. They were also good value and varied (duck, steak, chicken etc)
The location was quiet and relaxing, perhaps a little far away from any major towns but there were villages fairly close by. Also there were beaches on the rivers nearby.
I have very good memories of this holiday and hope to return soon.
Just back from a wonderful week at La Maison Grange. Not my first stay and it won't be my last. Previously it has been with my family but this was a sneaky week on my own to recharge the batteries. John and Jane, the owners, very successfully manage to make you feel that the place is your own but are readily available to help with local knowledge and advice. They are generous and wise in their hospitality. I stayed in 'Renoir' this time - it's comfortable and well furnished with every resource that you might need. It is a joy to have the pool on your doorstep. There are many beautiful and interesting small towns within easy reach - in 'the season' the night market at Le Pizou is a visit not to be missed and the buzz in the popular wine towns is lovely. My stay was in September - things were a bit quieter. Horses for courses - I love both. Most of all, I love it that there are no disappointments when I stay at La Maison Grange.

We stayed here in July 2013 and rented 2 gites. Area is very safe and relaxing, children could play happily with no worries. Pool area was very clean and extremely safe, attention to detail was magnificent, with fenced locked gate to pool as well as pool alarm! Gites were very homely, everything you would possiblty need in your home. Wifi connection was fast, lots of english tv channels to utilise for early child risers including cbeebies! Jane and john were great hosts, nothing was too much trouble for them and they were always on hand when needed. Free range eggs for breakfast was a bonus! Lidl supermarket 5 minute drive down the road for fresh bread and essentials for the bbq. Closed on sundays however. Would definitely recommend staying here for a very relaxing break!
I travelled to stay in La Maison Grange in June this year (2013) with 4 other friends (All girls !) The gite was extremely well presented and equipped. Rooms were great and bathroom lovely. The bedrooms had lovely views over the countryside. A very large living area as well as good size patio with all furniture etc., A good sized pool was very much enjoyed in the hot weather after good days out exploring the area - canoeing, shopping, wine tasting, exploring. We had hired a car and all the roads in the area were so quiet it was a pleasure to drive.
John and Jane were EXCELLENT hosts - they really couldn't do enough for us and we had some great evenings with them - highly recommend the bbq night !!!
I have used a lot of gites over the years in France and this was noticeably beautifully decorated and clean - well worth a trip !!!
If you want a holiday that gives you time to chill out as well as explore then La Maison Grange is a great base !! Enjoy !!

We stayed in August 2013 for 2 weeks , and the accommodation really is superb
Extra special attention to detail , and a really cosy authentic french feel , the actual location is fantastic , surrounded by fields , and the most beautiful surroundings , gorgeous pool , games room . And the most friendliest of hosts. John and jane are lovely , and greeted us on arrival and made sure we settled in , and had everything we needed
This place really makes you relax and chill , which is what we are all looking for !
Don't hesitate in booking , you won't be disappointed
Glad we found it !
We booked the whole of this property (all three gites) with friends and most certainly weren't disappointed. The gites are perfectly equipped and are very spacious (especially the three bedroomed properties). The pool area is superb and very child friendly / safe with a click lock gate, fence and pool alarm. The owners were very kind and welcoming and afforded us great hospitality ensuring that we had everything we needed and more. Nothing was too much trouble. The location is great too as we were looking for a quiet, rural location with good access to this great grape growing region. Lots for children to do..forest lakes, river beaches, kayaking, tree top zip wire parks (kind of go ape for kids).
Plus some exquisite restaurants to be found - we received great recommendations from the owners. A stunning holiday and I'm certain we'll go back and visit this property again.

We stayed at La Maison Grange in June and honestly I don't know where to start. It was fabulous from start to finish. Jane and John are exceptional hosts, genuinely lovely people and it is a very special place. From the welcome pack to Janes spit roast chicken it was amazing. The quality and cleaniness of the gite was wonderful. They have everything you could possibly need and more. The pool with the alarm and gate is a gorgeous retreat after sightseeing in the area and so safe for children. Johns knowledge and help with advice, recommendations and suggestions around the area were spot on and he is right 1 week is definitely not enough!! We wanted good quality family time and this is the place to go. As for Buster well what can we say?? An absolute beauty. There is so much more we could say but we simply fell in love with La Maison Grange and we will be returning again. Thank you for sharing you beautiful home with us and see you soon.
We had a fabulous stay in the Van Gogh gite during July 2016. The gite itself was brilliantly appointed - there was nothing we didn't need. We were travelling with a young family & Jane was so helpful in providing so many useful additions to make the holiday easier - e.g. travel cot, high chair, play mats etc. The surrounding areas are stunning & we enjoyed exploring the local region. The facilities are superb - we loved sunny days by the pool & keeping entertained from (rare) rain showers playing table tennis. John & Jane were the perfect hosts - nothing seemed too much trouble. We found La Maison Grange by chance via a search engine & are so very glad that we did.

11th to 25th June 2016. Stayed in van Gogh Gite. It was everything we needed for a great holiday. It was unfortunate that we were there during the worst June in the past seven or so years. We had torrential rain for a week but that did not stop us having a great time. The host and hostess - John and Jane were fabulous and could not do enough for us. Very Highly Recommended. Fantastic base for touring the area.

2nd until 16th July 2016 - This is the 4th time we have been back to visit John and Jane at La Maison Grange having visited for our family holidays in 2010, 11,13 and now 16. Personally we have never returned to the same holiday destination twice apart from here. To us, it's a real breathe of fresh air to find yourselves in this lovely part of France which is easily accessible by both road (we've driven the route every time from Essex) and plane ( this year our son (20yrs) and daughter (18yrs) and my sons girlfriend flew out to Bordeaux for £44 !! each) Over the years we have visited numerous towns and villages taking in the local French cuisine and history and La Maison Grange is an excellent base to visit local areas such as Chalais, Aubeterre sur dronne, Riberac, and the lovely Brantome. Saint Emillion is a must if you like your wines where there are numerous vineyards where you can stop and participate in free wine tasting !! The gites are beautiful with all mod cons including washing machine, dishwasher and of course a BBQ and Jane and John are the perfect hosts with cold drinks and food awaiting you on your arrival. Their 'meet and greet' and 'BBQ evening' are a must as you get to meet them and other guests and we've even kept in touch with some over the years via FB. The swimming pool is lovely, just right for when the temperature 'tips the scale' and you need to take a dip. This year the thermometer reached 40 degrees as it does most years, so if you want a relaxing holiday, with the sun, this is perfect. The games room is a great feature for a game of pool or ping pong to liven the day up, John and Jane have kitted the summer house out with games, books, leaflets of attractions in the area, bats and balls and virtually everything you would need for a family holiday. Local supermarkets provide a very good supply of every thing you would ever need. If you want a peaceful holiday in France, with sunshine and perfect hosts then this is it. 10/10 !! Looking forward to visit no 5.

My grown up daughter, her flat mate and I had a wonderful week in this treasure of a place. John and Jane are fabulous hosts, full of great suggestions as to what to do if you want to venture out but the garden and swimming pool provide a lovely environment to just chill, relax and relish the peace and quiet (which we did - often!). This is a beautiful part of France, plenty to do and places to visit if you wish, but also a lovely quiet area. A week wasn't enough and we were definitely not ready to come home. The gite (Renoir) was very well equipped, clean and comfortable and I cannot recommend La Mason Grange highly enough. Thank you very much John and Jane for a lovely week's holiday.
The Smith Family from Derby
Stayed in the Van Gogh for 2 weeks, August 6th – 20th 2016
I can honestly say the Gite exceeded our expectations for the entire time we were there. The accommodation was beautiful, well equipped, spacious, clean and had everything needed for a family of four. It provided an excellent base for our holiday and couldn’t have asked for better in which to explore the surrounding beautiful areas of the Dordogne. There are some great days out to be had – canoeing, markets, Go-ape, water parks etc
The pool was used every day and keep very clean and the patio and BBQ were also well used though out our stay. The kids (aged 11 and 8) loved the games room and played lots of pool, table tennis and table football. There were also a large number of books and dvd’s to borrow during your stay.
John and Jane are excellent hosts and made the stay very enjoyable – they are genuinely interested in ensuring you have a great holiday. Advice of where to visit and at what time was always available and the Thursday night BBQ run by them for all the guests is highly recommended.
A genuine 10 out of 10 place to stay, you will not be disappointed if you book to stay here!

Having recently returned from our 6th consecutive holiday fortnight with Jane and John, I can not rate La Maison Grange highly enough. On arrival we had a lovely welcome basket including wine, a baguette and fresh La Maison Grange eggs. The location of the Gite is ideal for exploring the local towns and markets, jet skiing and coarse fishing or you can just stay 'on site' and relax by the pool (which is cleaned daily) and enjoy the peace and quiet away from all the hustle and bustle, alternatively the games room has plenty of family games and a pool table. The gites are equipped with everything you can think of including washing machine and dishwasher. We highly recommend the Sunday get together, an opportunity to meet your holiday neighbours, and of course John and Jane's BBQ night, a fun night for all! We love it and cant wait to return!
